close reading 9/8

I hope this is what we were supposed to do lol lowkey feel like this isn't the right place or something but yeah This passage discusses the idea that it’s more effective to try a find a solution by creating a group of people who come from different fields, so that they can combine different areas of expertise to approach different parts of a problem (otherwise known as crowdsourcing), rather than using a group of people from just one field of expertise. Throughout the passage, Davidson’s word choice demonstrates her favor of crowdsourcing; for example, she discusses how expertise can “limit” our conception of a problem, and she also downplays the idea of being an expert, noting that there is always room to learn more and improve. I think the sentence that best highlights her strong favor of crowdsourcing was when she said that “no one of us individually is smarter than all of us collectively”.
The message described in this passage is a great example of the point of the whole essay, which discusses new, innovative ways to learn in a society that is rapidly advancing, technologically and ideologically. Davidson was right when she mentioned how expertise limits us, because it gives us less insight into other fields that we may not consider. It relays the idea of crowdsourcing as a new strategy to efficiently and accurately find solutions to problems or questions. The idea of crowdsourcing is actually used in the honors college forum that we’re required to take, where different students from different areas of study will come together to work on projects.
